Smith Island Pelican Tour

Delmarva Birding Weekends has run birding tours on Smith Island for more than 20 years. In 2018, they began working with the Smith Island community to launch new tours to safely view the Brown Pelican nesting colonies. The June 2021 all-day Brown Pelican Colony Tours cost $250/per person, which includes: private transportation aboard the Barbara Ann II (8 am – 4 pm), guests can leave personal items on boat, Small group skiff tours to view the Brown Pelican nesting colony, timed with the high tide, Lunch at Drum Point Market, includes crab cake sandwich, sides, drink, and slice of Smith Island cake, admission to Smith Island Cultural Center, and All-day professional bird guide.Tours of the pelican colony are in-boat-only. We do not enter the colony on foot as this would greatly disturb the birds and jeopardize the breeding success.
